Development of university can not be imagined without international cooperation and recognition nowadays. In order to reach world level and high quality university should study and share experience with foreign partners. Development of international relations makes it possible to monitor world higher education trends and form advanced strategy of university development. Partner ties with Europe, Asia and America well-known universities promote it. Partnerships with 52 largest universities of such countries as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Vietnam Spain, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, PRC, ROC, USA, Taiwan and Japan were established and maintained last 10 years.
The most important criteria of modern university are professional level of faculty and graduators-on-demand on labor market. To provide quality improvement of these criteria VSUES international cooperation resources are directed to creation of opportunities for participating in language and major internships abroad.
VSUES teachers and students take an active part in international grant associations and win grants of: USA Department of State, NATO, Humboldt, Soros, Eurasia, McArthur and Japan Foundations. More than 90 students, post-graduates and staff (including faculty) of the university won grants of different foundations and universities and studied abroad for free.
The University is implementing a number of international education projects now. Among them is «Global Understanding» Project, having been implemented since February of 2008 jointly with Eastern Carolina University. The project includes “Cross-cultural communications” joint course with usage of videoconferencing and Internet technologies. The course is taught in English.
Joint educational Bachelor program “2+2” with Dezhou University has been carried out since 2004. Educational “2+2” program in the field of Marketing, Commerce, Informational Technologies and Design is implemented jointly with Qingdao University of International Education. Educational program in the sphere of business management is carried out jointly with University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy. Joint bachelor program in the field of Management, Marketing and Linguistics has been implemented with UNITEC, Technological University of New Zealand since January 2008.
VSUES International Relations Department organizes lectures of consuls for students and teachers. USA, Japan, Vietnam and India Consuls Generals in Vladivostok visited VSUES in 2007-2008.
VSUES actively develops student exchange programs with University of Belgium, China, Republic of Korea and Japan. VSUES represents Russia in international contests, conferences and different level events annually.
VSUES was awarded Crystal Palm at La Sorbonne as one of the world’s best business schools on November 4. VSUES became one of 1000 world’s best business schools as a result of EDUniversal Company work. EDUniversal is international company which has been rendering consulting services in the sphere of business education for 14 years. In the view of education internationalization Company leadership issued ranking of 1000 world’s best business schools. VSUES became the only representative of Far Eastern Federal District included in ranking.
A lot of large-scale international events are carried out on VSUES base. Saltsburg Seminar experts visited VSUES on June 15-22, 2007. It was their second visit to VSUES in the range of “Russian program of high school” project. Sessions schedule included discussion of questions of creation of managerial accounting and reporting system, building up system of management oriented to the society demands, usage of flexible and mobile managerial structures (project and matrix management of educational processes) and a number of other questions. Experts noted that principles of business management are implemented at VSUES, and this question is in focus of many European universities.
Russian-Chinese forum on Bachelors of Economics training was held at VSUES on October 25-26, 2007. Representatives of 20 Russian and Chinese Universities discussed problems of foreign students training in Russia and new methodical approaches to training Bachelors of Economics. Russian universities transition to “bachelor - master” two-level system of education is planned to have carried out by 2009. VSUES was chosen by RF Ministry of Education as regional experimental platform for educational services export development in Far Eastern Federal District. It should be noted 2 issues of this program Bachelors were at VSUES. A great number of students from China continued their education on VSUES master courses.
East Carolina University delegation visited VSUES in March 2007. In the course of visit Agreement providing joint “Global Understanding” project implementation was signed. Students prepare joint graduation papers and receive ECU certificate after finishing the course which lasts 15 weeks. The present course promotes development of partnership between students and teachers from different countries, helps to advance the level of culture and language skills as well as communication skills in English.
Festival of Japan culture was held in VSUES Japanese stone-garden on September 9, 2008. The Festival was devoted to 20th Anniversary of “Toyama - Vladivostok” Association. Siunkiti Inagaki, “Toyama - Vladivostok” Association Vice-chairman, Alexey Belousov, “Toyama - Vladivostok” Association chairman and VSUES president Gennady Lazarev were among the guests. Japanese musicians and ikebana artists took part in the Festival events as well as Russian students. The Festival was attended by many guests of VSUES and Vladivostok. Such events promote the better understanding of cultures and traditions and strengthening relations between countries.
International Education week events were held at VSUES on November 18 – 20. It is the 9th International Education week in Russia carried out with the support of USA Department of State. Consulate representatives and educational programs coordinators had been meeting with students for 5 working days and tell them about opportunities of getting education abroad. It is joint initiative of USA Department of State and USA department of Education. The present project implementation promotes strengthening of system of international education, cultural exchanges and learning foreign languages. Graduators of USA Department of State programs graduator stake part in International Education week annually. These events take place in 7 regions of Russia with several hundred people involved.
